I guess I'll give U9 a try as those less known brand products seem to be hit-and-miss.
trying to avoid buying another. Only bought this one because I had read that resolution/frame rate switching and Passthrough works on this box!

Had xbmc/kodi on a win htpc since 09
Outputting 1080p24hz to my plasma and passing through via optical to a Sony 5.1 av amp. All worked fine.
Now have libreelec on the S912 based m8s pro l connected via hdmi to an onkyo av amp through to the same plasma.
1080p24hz is working fine. Pass through is not.
Av amp is only picking up 7.1 PCM.
I don´t believe incorrect hardware - what´s about botchy installation/configuration ?
Did You try a fresh installation without addons, skins etc. ?

It is disabled. All I'm getting is 7.1 PCM.
I've found the solution.
It was because of Hardware acceleration OMXPlayer that was enabled.
After disabled, it works fine.
I had this option enabled in Openelec with no issue but seems we don't have to put with Libreelec

Only had my box for a week, and the audio Passthrough has been irritating me!
Last post on the above suggests turning off hardware acceleration. I'll try that later.

Passthrough enabled,
Av Receiver connected thru hdmi is picking up 7.1 PCM regardless of source.
Av Receiver detects 7.1 PCM For all speaker configurations apart from 2.0.
When 2.0 is selected, AV Receiver detects 2.0 PCM.
1080p 24p works correctly.
Nexus ATV.
Hdmi Passthrough works correctly.
1080p24hz doesn't work correctly.
Apart from the above, libreelec is mint!
