If you are unable to run a 64-bit version of LibreELEC (try booting it from a USB stick), then I'm afraid you are stuck with the last 32-bit build of OpenELEC.

Replacing the GPU in such nettop boxes is not an option. It is simply soldered to the motherboard. The best option for 4K video is simply to get better/newer hardware such as Amlogic S905 based boxes. Your Acer Revo will never properly display 4K videos with the ION-1 onboard graphics card.

It does have an SDcard slot, so maybe I could try that port to boot from, but which build would I be using?

    Thanks for your advice

    The short answer is No.

The GPU is too old, it doesn't support hardware decoding for HEVC. And the CPU is too weak.

I don't even think it supports 4k resolution.

Also, Linux on x86 doesn't support HDR yet, so no HDR in LibreELEC for PCs for now.

Thank you for the information. I'd hoped I could make more use of this box than just x264/1080p and below that I get now. Even my RPi 2 now plays HEVC x265 clips once I upgraded it to current. I'd hoped I could do more with the Acer Revo.

Looks like I'll need to find a new box, but the pickings are slim. I love the Nvidia Shield but it only plays Android and that denies delete permission to my external USB media drive which is crucial for my use. I've tried the Droidbox s905 T8-Mini and s905x T8-SE, but they just don't seem to be the ultimate solution, even when running the LibreElec boot option. I just am not experienced enough to wade through all the various comments and suggestions that seem to point at more like the Droidbox setups.

I have an old (2011) Acer Revo AR3700-U3002 running OpenElec 5.0.8. It gives me OK 1080p video, but chokes on HEVC x265 and UHD 4K videos. Is there any better version of LE that will give me more ability to play the newer video formats? I wonder if it is even possible to upgrade the GPU to get 4K playback? What build do you recommend, and where do I find it? How would I perform the upgrade? I'm a newbie in these matters.

    Thanks :/

Is there any way to run LibreElec on a Nvidia Shield? Has anyone managed to do it? I live the Shield, but hate the Android OS it runs. It disables write/delete to my USB media drive and that is unacceptable. Please tell me I there is a way to get the Shield to run without Android.

Here is a complete list for all the downloads available:

To list any hardware, which might be supported is quite a hard deal and won't happen. Better it would be, if you tell us which hardware you are using and then we are able to tell you if that's supported or not.

Especially for the Android devices, there is no official support. There are community builds for some S805/905 (and other) devices. But there doesn't exist a list of which are supported or not.

So please tell us which devices you are using. Especially for the PCs, the GPU is most important.

Which LibreElec build would I use for an Dravidian Shield 2017? And the Minix-U9H?
