All my older movies plays and looks fine on my tv (with 8.0.2a). Only the new BT2020 10bit HEVC videos look awfull (no black, no contrast).
Latest jarvis (7.0.3.012l) hasn't got this problem with BT2020 videos. It just plays them fine as the older ones.
Set the TV's input RGB range to limited (HDMI black level / black level = low) and see if that fixes it.
Change the tv settings for every movie is not the best solution for me.
I'm happy with the Jarvis (which has no problem with HDR material), I've just wanted to show the problem in the latest Krypton.
Time to time I compare the newest Krypton build to the latest Jarvis I use.
Right now I compared 7.0.3.012l to 8.0.2a with a sample from Passengers.2016.UHD.2160p.HEVC.HDR10.DTS-HD.5.1
In the Krypton it looks very bad on my tv (which is not HDR capable).
There are no black at all:

Same sample in Jarvis looks far better:

Oh, there is a hint also when hover the mouse.
When I tried to take a video of the strange behaviour (after a restart) suddenly everything is fine.
I cannot reproduce the previous problems right now.
I use Jarvis on emmc and this 8.0.1l-mm on sd card.
jd17 Try a high bitrate BD structure to play and make some chapter change or ff, rw.
For me it's completely unusable on the same box.
Black picture, green vertical lines random stops and other anomalies.
Jarvis works flawless with the same BD (BARAKA ~47GB).

What are these 8.0.1l-mm versions?
The topic title suggest it is an UHD tv and the label says 55HU8500 so why do you think "tv no support 4k"?
Anyway, 012k version produces same strange screens on different devices so try 012j instead.
Clean install works, maybe I'll try to backup and restore my data.
I've tried to upgrade to 012k again but got the same result as before, Kodi cannot start. Freezing with a distorted LE logo.
I used the latest devel on my M8S II installed to the nand.
Now I copied the version 12k to the update folder and also copied the corresponding dtb, then restarted LE.
It made the upgrade but after the restart I see the LE logo for a few second and then it shrinks to half size vertically to the top and this distorted logo stays there forever.
The box is not dead, I can ssh to it but cannot make it boot to Kodi.
I tried again the update procedure but got the same result.
Now I went back to the devel version.
I posted 7.0.3.012k build in OP. It includes all kernel improvements from my 8.0 builds and all Kodi improvements that apply to Jarvis. This is the last 7.0 build for S905/S905X.

I am sure that you are aware, that you should NEVER plug/unplug the HDMI cable while under power.
I ALWAYS plug/unplug the HDMI cable while under power.
Never had any problem.
It is a hot pluggable system.
