I still always rename the current device trees to dtb.img and it always worked just fine.
Did kszaq ever recommend to not rename them anymore? Again, first time I read this...
When updating you can either rename it or leave *.dtb file name. Renaming is only important when installing for the first time.

Manually changing the refresh rate seems disabled in settings as well, even when connected to my monitor- greyed out at 60hz. Limitation of the hardware? I'm pretty sure my projector supports HDMI 1.4, which includes 24hz as a refresh rate option, so I'm inclined to think its the box. And if it isn't changing the refresh rate, why is it bothering to update the screen and disconnect/reconnect each time?
Greyed out 60Hz means that your box detects 60Hz as the only available screen refresh rate, This could be an issue with EDID. You can try to force other rates by using this: Index of /s805/utils/disp_cap_hack
The box in question is Videostrong K1 with DVB-T2 that has Sony CXD2872 receiver, that (to my understanding) has Linux support, so it should be possible to get Libreelec with Tvheadend to work in this box. I have newer done this, but I would like to give it a try. I have already extracted the .dtb file from the original FW and I can't get my box to boot with any of the precompiled FW's, so the method mentioned in the FAQ in the first post is a no go.
If the tuner is connected using S805 TS interface, you would need to get AML DVB kernel driver first (it is not open source) and then customise demod+tuner driver to work with AML TS interface. If it's a USB tuner, it should work OOB.
Hey fellows one more question regarding the topic .. If i pud the Libreelec img file LibreELEC-S805.arm-8.2-8.1.10-m201d.img in /storage/.update then where should i put the device tree file dtb.img
S805 firmware do not use a separate device tree, it is already embedded in kernel image.
Just wanted to point to the same problem on the same SoC, where the issue was solved by an option in a new firmware:
Closed source Android firmware is not helpful for us. Resolving this issue requires modifying kernel code.
Switching to RGB 10bit mode should be possible by echo 'rgb,10bit' > /sys/class/amhdmitx/amhdmitx0/attr

WiFi works fine. UI seems way too fast and not smooth.
What does "too fast" mean? The "smoothness" patch turned off vsync at Kodi side but it is handled on kernel side so no tearing should be v
is there any way to force a certain display resolution? Problem is that my S905X isn't capable of displaying the resolution of 3840 × 2160 when it's hooked up to a Soundbar (HDMI IN). Only during the splashscreen when i'm rebooting the box! My only solution to "override" the situation is to boot it up directly on a HDM port of the TV and to replug it into the soundbar after the preferred resolution is set. Downside is that I'm losing CEC-Support because of this "method". Any suggestions?

Amlogic is currently broken in Kodi master branch (as of d18acce).
Btw im planing to switch to S905D cpu , could you recommend me some decent OTT box with s905d cpu ?
You may already know that I do not give box recommendations.
...but as there is only one S905D box on the market (KI Pro) I can say that it's quite good.
