Anyone else has problems with freezing on Live TV with Wetek Play 2, dvb-s tuner and TVHeadend?
After about 30minutes the image freezes and the system is not reacting to any remote command.
This is not a Software support thread. You issue is software related and not a hardware problem.
Please start a new thread about the issue.
First is newer but i have also read that the Boxes could be Very hot.
I would use theese boxes only for Play Mkvs (DVD and Blu-ray)
If you are worried about device longevity and do not need 4K HDR then simply buy a S905 MINIX U1 that has a class leading heat sink AND a nice integrated wireless remote AND Gigabit Ethernet.
No need to even use a reset button. You simply hold in the power button for 6 seconds or more to boot to LE the very first time from a micro SDHC card.

It's not just the AML S912 I am noticing strange, occasional downloaded external Subtitle Addon hangs with but other S9xx platforms that never had video playback Subtitle issues.
They too now occasional lock up Kodi. I suspect a Kodi update has messed with something.
Weird thing is it's not all external .srt Subtitles that do this.
If I remove the problematic .srt file from my external file server the previously Kodi crashing movie files playback fine.
Simple question is this a Hard drive power draw issue ?
Be aware plugging multiple 2.5" Hard drives into ARM based devices at the same time is bound to cause trouble unless you use a powered USB Hub for reliability.
3.5" Hard drives with their own power supplies will be OK.

Alpha software on any hardware platform = buggy with any number of hidden problems and issues.
You are using what could be called be labelled experimental software, it simplys need more time to mature and iron out the bugs.
Simply stop using bleeding edge software releases and go back to using something that is comparatively stable that being LE 8.2.x Kodi Krypton.
You are using very new Alpha Software with a new Linux Kernel.
So you have to be prepared for issues and bugs because it is not what you would call stable software.
Try using a LE 8.2.x version if you do not want to be a Guinea pig and experiment.
I would say the same to anyone using any sort of Alpha software on any hardware platform.
This is not a LE install or config support test thread.
Go to the individual S9xx device threads for such support
And that definitely applies for early Alpha test versions of LE 8.9 Leia and Netflix usage.

Just for a bit of info here regarding Dirty Regions.
That section of the XBMC/Kodi code appears to be pretty old and was needed back in the day when media players had relatively slow CPU's and weak GPU's with slow internal data transfer capabilities. The RPi's likely still need DR.
The LE developers have had a discussion over in the Slack chat forum and we have found even modern LE/Linux Kodi - Intel hardware benefits from disabling Dirty Regions completely now too, resulting in a smoother GUI there as well.
Newer ARM GPU's like the Mali-T820 in the AML S912's also employ technologies like ARM - ASTC, AFBC, SC and TE to further reduce memory bandwidth needed for data transfer and display rendering.
I've not tried it but I believe you can just drop the appropriate .dtb file in the Update folder as well as the LE .tar update then reboot.
That is as good as S912 GPU rendering performance is going to get for the Hybrid GPU drivers used with Kodi Krypton.
We have reached the end of the line so far as S912 GPU tweaking is concerned. 
If unsatisfied, use a different Skin View or slower S905X hardware.
Copying the LE data partition to internal eMMC storage will improve Kodi performance:

I'm really not seeing many downsides to LE S912's anymore now the external .srt Subtitles problem has been fixed.
They are one snappy LE setup when used with a Wireless remote.
Some S912's even come with Gigabit Ethernet (1000M LAN) - which is really good for high bitrate 4K HDR video playback, especially when skipping around in video.
Amazon Prime won`t work in 1080p. Get an Amazon Stick for that if you need it.

I'm getting good results now with an overclocked S912 GPU and new GPU drivers and tweaks that went into my S912 LE Krypton Subtitles fix release.
For example I can now playback 1080p 11Mbps 10bit H264 aka Hi10P Anime - that uses CPU software decoding. This is the same software decoding that AML Kodi Leia uses with the Netflix Addon. I've done further testing with other 1080p H264 CPU software decoded content and it plays back fine.
I now strongly suspect 1080p Netflix and 1080p Amazon Video - Kodi Leia - H264 streaming may work on a AML S912 when using software decoding.

PS. Even 1080p 11Mbps 10bit H264 aka Hi10P Anime seems to be ffmpeg software decoding and playing back properly now after LE refresh switches. This might be a good sign for 1080p H264 Netflix with Leia on S912's and others. More testing needs to be done.

wrxtasy There is minor tearing in the GUI with the new build but nothing major at all. I only notice it if there is some animation in the GUI.
For example I only see it if I enable "Use slide animations" in Estuary skin. If I disable it, I can barely see any tearing. All in all, a very minor thing compared to the fix for the stuttering issue.
In the following folder you should find a S912 Subtitles-ff.tar update that should fixup the Subtitles and GUI tearing when using slide animations as well (its uploading now):

The Kodi GUI should be smoother now and will still retain it's new found snappiness.

Remember to go into Kodi Settings > System > Display > Community Extras > Set GPU clock to 792MHz

Ahh Slide animations. Yes I see it now.
It's the reason they are disabled by default with @kszaq's version and this one. Simply do not use 'em.
I don't like them either to be honest, they waste time navigating the GUI.
In fact I'm going to Nuke that option in future S912 releases.
We really need proper Linux GPU video drivers for the S912 - anything else is a compromise and will never be as smooth as S905.. LE devices.
