share internet connection from libreelec to pi zero

  • This may be slightly off-topic but i'm trying to find out if I can share the internet connection from my libreelec rpi2 to a rpi zero over USB.

I have a rpi2 running libreelec connected to my TV/AV receiver/router behind the TV. I want to connect a rpi zero to the AV receiver to use as a simple spotify client and I want to share the internet connection to the zero from the rpi2.

I have found some instructions which show its possible to share an internet connection to a pi zero from a windows laptop

I just wondered if its possible from libreelec.

  • Pretty sure you could run the kodi spotify addon on libreelec.

But to answer your question, Libreelec can act as an access point, see libreelec settings. Whether this works with your particular wifi dongle I can't say.

  • Nearly manged to get this to work, using a single usb cable from the pi2 to the zero I powered and networked the zero as a usb ethernet device and it appears in the librelec network config settings.
I could then ssh into the zero from the libreelec pi2 and could access the internet from the zero but could not seem to make the zero appear on my network from machies other than the pi2.
The zero ended up on a different subnet and i couldn't fix the routing problem.

Looks like i'm going to need a wifi/ethernet usb dongle to network the zero after all.
