Audio sync problem

  • Hello,

I have been using LibreElec for quite some time and OpenElec before that. I suddenly have a weird issue with the audio not in sync with the video. I posted on the KODI forum but didn't get an answer. I'm hoping maybe someone here may have a suggestion.

I have been happily using LibreElec 7.0.3 on an ASUS Chromebox. I purchased a new TV in March. it is an Insignia (Best Buy) NS-55DR710NA17 Ultra 4K Roku Smart TV. I was using the Rapier skin. I use NextPVR and no add-ons. My media is on an unRAID server and everything is connected via gigabit wired. I also use a MySQL database.

I was watching a TV episode of Law and Order in May and discovered the audio was out of sync and the video was jittery (choppy). I don't know how to describe the video except that it looks like it was filmed on a cheap VHS camera.

The OTA TV via NextPVR is even worse. The video looks fine but the audio is further out of sync from my recorded shows. I checked the files on another TV (older LCD 1080P) I have running the same ASUS box and everything is perfect - including live TV via NextPVR.

Every file seems to require a different audio offset.

I noticed that the Rapier skin had gone through an update so I immediately suspected it as the culprit. I have a third ASUS box I was going to build for my son so I decided to build it and test it out on my Insignia TV. It also has the audio sync issue.

I had built the new ASUS box on a TV I have in the basement (Plasma 1080P) and it had looked perfect. So I took the original box from my Insignia TV to the basement plasma and it functions perfectly there!

I then took the box back to the Insignia and did a fresh install while connected to the Smart TV. Still audio delay. I took it to the plasma - no delay.

I am stumped. I guess it's something with the 4K TV but I have no idea what to try next. I checked and there was a firmware update on the Insignia TV in May - but I can't really say the problem began at that time. It is high on my suspect list.

Please can anyone help? I am really thinking of buying a new TV - but what if it has the problem? The TV that the Insignia replaced was a plasma that died after many faithful years of services and the other TVs I have are smaller than what I want in the family room or I would just move one of them.

    Thanks for any suggestions/comments.

  • As I suspected it is an issue with the Roku TVs. The firmware update sent in May did "something".

I have since purchased a new android smart TV and it works flawlessly with everything else the same (hardware, settings, etc.)

I hope this helps if anyone else has a Roku TV or is considering purchasing one.
