TVheadend (backend server) OS

  • Q. Do you know what would be really great?

    A. A lightweight TVheadend (backend server) OS.

For the Pi, Odroid and perhaps even Wetek devices.

Dedicated and simplified. Almost plug and play.

Access a remote GUI from a desktop. With easy to configure wi-fi. And easy to add usb or remote storage.

Anyone with the technical ability feel like taking this under their wing? Or is this a daft idea?

    Thomas

  • GitHub - chewitt/LibreELEC.tv at leiot-8.0 has a second 'distro' option (LEIoT) to build that drops Kodi/media stuff and gives you a console-only version of LibreELEC about 75MB in size. Last time I built an image it failed on something, but it's probably minor. It needs further work to add a docker package to the image (which will bump image size); then you can pull the LinuxServer.io tvheadend container and leave it to rot hidden in a cupboard somewhere. I might blow the dust off this in the near future, but no guarantees.

  • Blimey. Or at least possibly-maybe blimey. I'll start clearing a space in the cupboard. Perhaps put the skeletons on ebay.

Thanks for taking the time to even consider the idea.
