Better information provider than TMDb TV Shows?

  • I'm running LibreElec 12.2.1 on a Raspberry Pi. I've been using TMDb TV Shows as the TV Information provider and it's been working for awhile now. Last week, it has stopped recognizing the shows names. I've tried refreshing several different shows that have already been indexed and I just keep getting asked to enter the show name. Entering the show name does help.

Has anyone else encountered this issue? Anyone have any suggestions?

  • I discovered the issue. After 3+ months of Libreelec being configured to use TMDb TV Shows as the TV Informational provider, it somehow (magically?) got changed back to the broken "The TVDB" provider at the disk drive level below "TV Shows" (in the "change content" settings).

  • For many years, I used the information provider "The TVDB" for obtaining the tv shows information. As that is now labeled (version 3.3.0) as "broken, no longer maintained", I switched to using "TMDb TV Shows". I'm finding that TMDb isn't as good of a source for TV shows as TVDB is.

Shows, just for example, the BBC show "Arena" and the National Geographic's series "Naked Science". TMDb has only a very few of the episodes of "Arena" in their database, and is completely missing the "Naked Science" series.

    Arena - TheTVDB.com

    Naked Science - TheTVDB.com

Obviously, I can create my .nfo file for those shows where TMDb is lacking. Before doing that additional work, I thought I would ask if anyone have any suggestions for a better information provider to use for TV shows? Or another solution than creating .nfo files?

    Thanks,

    Richard
