"no signal" for Astromedia device

  • Hi.

I recently bought a USB DVB-T2 dongle, but I'm unable to make it working. I obtain the same result on Debian than on LibreELEC (that I'm trying having found a reference on the LinuxTV wiki:( the device is correctly detected, the (probably...) correct kernel module is loaded (more exactly: dvb_usb_rtl28xxu), but I cannot fetch a list on channels with a scan.

The product is this one. Astromedia 2018 revision, I guess.

    Code
    # lsubs
    Bus 001 Device 005: ID 15f4:0131 HanfTek Astrometa DVB-T/T2/C FM & DAB receiver [RTL2832P]

I've installed the "DVB Tools" package to obtain some more CLI tool to execute, as suggested here, but what I obtain is:

Now, my doubt is: where is the issue? It may be the driver? It may be the device? It may be the antenna?

Is there any test I'm missing, at least to delimit the root cause?

I live in a large city in norther Italy, so it should not be a problem with actual coverage.

    Thanks.

  • Hi, I own 3 Astromedia Tuners, one (the older) with Panasonic chip, and two with the Sony (CXD2837ER) and working well with LE. One of the Sony version a bought defective, I managed to repair it (I'm working in the electronical industry). So, these devices are cheep... but the quallity sometimes... cheep. Maybe that it's the case with your device too. Try to verify the antenna signal quallity (ex. with a TV). Try (if you didn't tried yet) to check with another OS (Linux, Win), with another program, and if isn't working, probably it's defective.

  • I am using also some Astrometa tuners and all are working fine.

There's no mention of what exactly you wish to receive and through which SW so it's hard to say what does not work. The log does not show anything bad (to me).

LE + TVH Server should work, in Debian you may need to download a proper firmware.
