[RPI4] Questions about 4K and libreelec version

  • Hello, I have a Raspberry Pi 4 with 8GB of RAM. I have been using LibreELEC 11 for a year now, but I have several questions.

    1. When I play 4K content on Kodi, it seems to work fine at first, but then it starts to freeze constantly, as if the HDMI cable connection is lost. I am not sure if it could be the cable itself or if anyone else has experienced this.
    2. Sometimes, while browsing Kodi, the Raspberry Pi automatically restarts for no apparent reason. This happened when I installed Libreelec 12.0.1, so I downgraded to 11, but it's still happening, so I've stayed with 11 for now.
    3. Is it advisable to update to version 12.0.2?

    Thanks!

  • Start with a debug log that demonstrates the issue occuring. We will be interested to understand the system config and type of media being played, e.g. to see if it's 4K60 which requires more power (could be power issues) leading to undervolt warnings in the system log. It could also be the cables if not 'certified' ones. Regular causes of display problems also include micro-HDMI to HDMI adapters, Argon 40 cases, and a load more things. System temp is also something to be tracked.

In terms of releases/versions, I would update to an LE13 nightly image instead of downgrading to LE11. Nightlies cannot be tagged as stable due to Kodi not-yet-starting the Piers release cycle, but I've run them daily on an RPi5 for the last year and half .. they seem pretty stable to me :)
