TMDB TV shows vs The TVDB

    I recently banged my head against the keyboard for several days due to a TV show scrapping all wrong, although everything was identically named against The TVDB, or so i though...

    Then I went back up and realized that in the current stable release of LE 12.02, the default (and only) available option for scrapping TV shows went to TMDB, the TVDB have disappeared (oh no !) - I remember clearly in my early Kodi days, that TVDB was there.

    So i went to addons -> Download -> Information Providers -> Tv Information -> The TVDB v4 and installed it, then it is DB cleaning time !


    My question will be rather philosophical here, is there a reason why:

    a) TVDB plugin is not there by default ?

    b) We chose TMDB TV shows instead (was there anything wrong with TVDB ?)


    Just curious.


    I also went through some past threads mentioning that it was not possible to fix one show on one plugin and the default for the rest. That would have fix my problem fast.

    I also tried to look around in TMDB to see if there was a way to fix their partial / bad info but haven't found much there... not even able to see how they arranged the information through their website.

    Scraping sites come and go over time for no reason other than the wind starts blowing in another direction, or because sites switch their business model and start imposing restrictions that don't make sense for Kodi trying to sustain milllions of users. The default was set by Kodi not LE and if that needs to change, Kodi should change it, not LE.

    All the scraping sites support end-user input in some form. If the content is wrong, submit changes. If nobody submits changes, it remains wrong. Or do the lazy-user approach and wait for someone else to do it, but that might involve a long wait.
