no boot on mac

  • Hi all,
I ask your help to troubleshoot whatever happened on my mac (mac mini early 2009 model) because one day it didn't boot into LE no more :(

So, I installed LE (Generic 7.0.2) on the internal SSD a couple of months ago and everything was running fine, the only issue I could identify was a long boot time (maybe 2-3 mins) but disregarding that everything was perfect. Yesterday, it stopped booting into LE (and no dual boot here).
Now I cant boot from the internal SSD or external USB... it simply hangs and after 3 or 4 mins it restarts.

Everything is running fine if I use another Linux LiveUSB, so I ruled an hardware fault from the issue. What kind of troubleshooting can I do here?

    Thank you all in advance.

  • Mac hardware with firmware before ~2011 is normally a pain in the arse with Linux. Make sure the internal SSD is "blessed" correctly for boot and check dmesg for media/mounting issues with the internal drive.

I would normally agree with you, but on this I run every other Linux distro without many issues (besides Wifi which is in fact a PITA)...

but why cant I even boot from the USB? it simply hangs after selecting it...

    Thanks

  • Apart from historic experience with shitty firmware, PRAM (BIOS) batteries, and passing the observation that a 2009 machine is now ~7 years old and in the zone where things just randomly pack up with no explanation .. I've no idea. Perhaps try using rEFInd as the boot manager?
