RPi5/librelec booting issue after reboot

  • Hi,

Librelec 12, after a poweroff (using the ui menu), doesn't boot anymore.

Rpi5 itself can go to the diagnostic screen with no issue. Inserting the SD at that moment shows detection and files loading. It can read for half a second until the screen goes black, the fan stops and ACT LED goes dark.

Last log line I see is fs_open 'armstub8_2712.bin'.

This already happened before, and after wiping and reinstalling on the same SD it works perfectly fine... Until I poweroff.

I tried multiple power supply units, up to 3A for a macbook. I assume that if the SD was dead, I wouldn't be able to ever do the first boot, same for a faulty RPi. I followed generic RPI booting issues threads and couldn't find something related to my case. LE/RPI booting threads didn't help either.

    Any clue of what's happening?

  • If there were general issues with SD card boot on RPi5 boards we'd be flooded with reports, and we're not, so it's likely to be something local. I'd start with updating to the latest board firmware, and experimenting with another SD card.

  • There are 2 things to note in your screenshots:

    • You hasn't used the official supported power supply -> recommended: 5.1V / 5A via Power Delivery protocol
Other PSU can be unstable, because not ready for the fast load switches of the RPi5.
    • The bootloader is one of the first and outdated 2023-10-18 (current: 2024-09-10)

It's also important to know if you use a case like the Argon ONE V3, because this needs special handling.

But in general, please follow chewitt recommendation and try a new SD card first.
