Raspberry Pi Legacy Tools Add-on

I had problems installing the new RPi3-addons via GUI (error was something like "wrong addon structure"). So I installed the RPi4/RPi5-addon virtual.rpi-legacy-tools and just replaced the file _GPIO.so in folder /storage/.kodi/addons/virtual.rpi-legacy-tools/lib/RPi with the one from your new ZIP-file. Now rpi-gpio works on my 3B-device.

I am glad that it works, but I did not find any problem in the structure of the add-on.
I believe that the installation problem was caused by the fact that the previous (incompatible) version of the add-on was not completely uninstalled (preferably with a subsequent restart).
But I could be wrong, of course.
I would be very happy if someone (who owns an RPi2 or RPi3) could do a test that would shed some light on this.

Thank you LuRu, it works, and it also worked again after a recent Raspberry Pi Tools update. Could you create a github project for this?

Unfortunately after applying virtual.rpi-tools the update notification for Raspberry Pi Tools appears again, can this be fixed?

A new version of the Raspberry Pi Tools Add-on was recently released, with the number 12.0.0.2. This is a higher number than the modified add-on version (12.0.0.001), so the upgrade is still offered.
Therefore I have created a new version of the modified add-on:
1. version for RPi4 or RPi5: virtual.rpi-tools-12.0.0.2.001.zip
2. version for RPi2 or RPi3: virtual.rpi-tools-12.0.0.2.001.zip

Libreelec 12.0.2 released on the 22nd of January now includes a PWM gpio fan overlay. The Raspberry Tools addon is no longer required.

To get it working with a Pi4 and a 52pi Ice Tower fan with red, black and blue wires I added...

Code

dtoverlay=gpio-fan,gpiopin=14,temp=55000

...To config.txt.
