Generic x86 VS Legacy (Pros and Cons)

  • Hi folks,

I'm very new to LibreELEC / HTPC scene.

I've installed Generic x86 version on a Acer Veriton N4640G (6th gen i5, 8gb ram, ssd) and things seem to work alright. I'm using my LG 4K HDR TV as a display.

As I understand, if I want to install Chrome / Transmission, I need to move to the x86-legacy version. (generic cannot run chrome or other web browsers?)

So if I move to the legacy version, what am I gonna lose ? (compared to using generic x86 version)

    Thanks

  • Generic (GBM) supports HDR, does not support Chrome. Generic-Legacy (X11) does not support HDR, has Chrome. It's possible to install Transmission but we do not provide piracy tools from any of our repos, so figuring that our is on you - and be mindful of our forum rules if you want support.
