Is there an easy way to update the ffmpeg-001-rpi.patch to work with ffmpeg 4.4-N-Alpha1 ?

No, Why do you want to update FFmpeg?

I normally compiled libreelec with the latest master build of kodi. I removed a few patches while they are no longer needed in the master build. This proces worked ok until kodi moved on to ffmpeg 4.4 Alpha. So I assumed I needed to update the ffmpeg in libreelec as well

Kodi master is now V20N you probably want to use the stable Matrix branch.

Kodi master will still work with ffmpeg 4.3 (if you know what you're doing)
