I've had a Synology DS416slim for years now and it's never let me down. I currently have 4x 750GB WD Red 2.5" HDD's in there for 2TB SHR and that's still plenty for me at the moment.

Lakka isn't an addon, it's a whole bespoke RA system.
Just install Lakka on a separate drive and away you go.
-
On one hand there's no dispute something with newer kernels is needed.
There's a similar issue with Lakka (which is also LibreELEC based), there's a fair amount of stuff that really needs >5.10 now.
-
If you decide to go with a RPi4, I recommend the 8GB board. Linux, in general (to include LE), runs faster with more memory. So software decodes work better.
Pretty sure 8GB is overkill for LibreELEC, 2GB should be absolutely fine. Decoding video really doesn't use much memory, and the JeOS itself is very light on resources.
-
48Hz movies are certainly bad enough.

I have a T95 Max box currently that I'm running with the nightly Tanix TX6 images, and in regards to HEVC all my files up to 4k30 play fine, but most 4k60 files struggle for me at the moment.
-
Intel and AMD hardware just isn't ready quite yet for HDR, so no, there isn't a 'no problems' solution yet for you with LE.
-
Both devices got hardware beefy enough to run something like LibreElec (3D acceleration, hardware video decoding, enough RAM), yet both are rotting away, feature and security wise, waiting to become e-waste.
Who wants such 'future'?
Of course some old devices can have a long life, but you've got to have a developer who has the time to put in hard work and have it not be an utterly thankless task.
A lot of old drivers won't even build these days, every dog has it's day unfortunately...

I posted a newer build here. No idea if anything changed for AMD.
I just tried that build on my Hades Canyon NUC/Vega M and it mainly works okay, but sometimes it doesn't HDR switch first time automatically, I have to stop and play the file again for it to activate.

I ask mainly because I would love to build out another fanless x64 box for my home theater Kodi device (currently a Vero 4k+); I find the embedded systems to simply be under-powered.
You shouldn't need 10W+ to play media and run a pretty skin either, efficiency is king here IMHO
Currently I think an S905X3 SoC is tough to beat in terms of 'sweet spot' capabilities and efficiency.

I'm hopeful the DRM pull for 5.18 will help these sort of issues, I've always found hotplug detection to be pretty janky on RPi4's:
-
can a rpi4 (assuming I can find one in stock) really reliably handle 4k@ 60fps with zero problems?
In my experience with the latest nightlies an RPi4 can handle 4k60 H.265/HEVC/HDR videos fine, but it struggles with 4k60 H.264/AVC and quite a few other codecs like VP9 and VC-1 etc. What I'm trying to say is that an RPi4 has potential, but it's still a bit rough around the edges and nothing I'd consider running 24/7 in someone else's home yet.
Compared to an S905X3 box running CE, it's no comparison really, that SoC will chew through anything you can throw at it pretty much.
Don't overlook something like an Nvidia Shield TV, think about how it's going to be switched on/off and general ease of use etc.

In my AVR (DenonX4100) i have to change in HDMI Settings "VideoConversation" to "ON".
That seems like a HDMI limited (16-235)/full (0-255) issue, switching 'Deep Colour' on/off or similar option on your display should be able to rectify this. Ideally both client and host should match (i.e. both full or both limited), but sometimes you need to alternate.
Ideally what you're looking to see is a true black (and not a grey)

Which remote would you recommend the most?
I like the WeChip G20 RF Remotes, they are well supported, cheap/a bit basic, but very snappy and functional.
-
Of course, you're using image tailored to Tanix TX6, which comes with different remote. You have to build your own image tailored for T95 Mini. Check last 3 commits here how to do that: https://github.com/jernejsk/LibreELEC.tv/commits/tx6-mini Those commits were made for similar test - if different IR settings for otherwise box with similar configuration would work.
Okay, understood and fair enough.
-
Yeah mine does the same no matter what image as well. Seeing if I can get the remote that came with the box programed in and see if we can get help from there.
I've got that same remote too (I've got a collection of them from various TV boxes), none of them seem to work by default with either LibreELEC or CoreELEC, you have to set them up manually if you want to use them.

Posted my debug logs, please advise jernej if any more info is required:
dmesg:

We have provided more information on this in our privacy policy.Again to note, this box doesn't seem to have any default working IR config (even my MCE RC6 remote doesn't work with it OotB), it'll reboot/restart fine, but doesn't shutdown or start (from IR or WeChip G20 RF dongle), no WiFi either but I understand this.
Otherwise it's an excellent box, a genuine Samsung CJNB4R 64GB eMMC and great thermals (rarely above 55'C, even under heavy load)

My problem is if I power off I get stuck on a black screen and can not power it back on without unplugging the device and plugging it back in.
Tbh my T95 Max does this also, both with the TX6 stable/nightly images and TX6 Mini test image, it doesn't shut down properly (HDMI is still powered, screen is grey not black).
