Perhaps in some cases there is also no reason to be spiteful or judgmental.

If I have 'touched a raw nerve' with you that's a shame, but what I posted was actually a possible solution to your self-inflicted predicament and a suggestion that others do a little more research before blindly rushing into these things.

As far as advice to others goes, would you not agree that everyone should at least learn enough to know that they should back up their original FW before hastily overwriting it?

Furthermore, as far as I remember and the feedback here goes, the particular issue I described has never been encountered by someone else before.

This particular issue wouldn't even be an issue had the first rule of flashing roms been followed (ie backup beforehand in case something doesn't go as expected)

Of course people have had flashes go wrong before (which is what this particular issue is), they just usually have taken precautions allowing them to quickly revert the box to original setup

Hopefully you will be able to recover your box using the advice you have received and therefor be able to stop striking out at those offering help ;)

jd17, Those with the 'M96X' box are saying you can use the 'X96' firmware (but that you might have to replace remote.conf when you're done).

As always, this at your own risk (as was the installtointernal script) as nobody else can be held responsible for your decisions - Good luck!

Perhaps now is a good time for those that insist on installing to internal, for no real gain, to note that doing so does involve some risk, unlike installing to external media, and shouldn't be attempted until you have a working backup of your original Android FW

These warnings have been repeatedly issued throughout these forums.

It's a shame that some only decide to read up on what they're doing after they are affected by the possible issues that previous posts attempt to help others avoid. /shrug

My Mecool M8S Pro+ does not show a shutdown menu in LE. Hitting the power button shuts the box down with no menu choices . . .

This was already answered (twice) the first time you asked:

Would it be under power options, depending on the skin?

Choose a different skin (the default one, for example) and check under power options

LE is the OS that is running Kodi. What you are referring to is a Kodi menu

The Menu you are asking about is a KODI menu and nothing to do with these LE builds.

Why not ask your question in the Kodi forums, if you're not happy with the answers here?

    I'm using AeonNox SIlvo

Again, you're much more likely to find assistance with specific Kodi skins / issues in the Kodi forums than here, in an LE forum

(Unless, of course, @Uukrul's solution above proves useful to you)

Curiously there is no shutdown menu in Kodi/Android either.

I don't think there usually is a menu in the Android versions. I think it is replaced with Exit (back to Android)

EDIT: Wouldnt it be better - to get a short clear instruction answer instead of "please read this"?

"please read this" is a short clear instruction answer (to read what has already been written, instead of expecting to be spoon-fed) ^^

Why would you expect people to repeat the same info over and over for those that won't do a little research for themselves?

Being directed to the post where your question is already answered, saves you the effort of looking for yourself, without those helping you having to spend all their time repeatedly typing in the same information.

Good to see you quickly realised what you were doing wrong and successfully corrected it

can't seem to find instructions on what settings to use in Rufus to burn the image to an sd card. I'm sure I've seen this somewhere a few weeks ago.

I believe the procedure is the same as all of these type of programs (1.Select the device - 2.Select your source image - 3.Click Burn source image to device)

If you require more detailed, 'step-by-step' instructions on how to use Rufus, I'm sure a quick Google search or a 'How to use Rufus' thread will be more appropriate than kszaq's LibreElec software thread.

Read here and good luck with your search

The MeCool M8S Pro Plus for less than $40 US is the best Amlogic S905X box on the market now. This MeCool M8S Plus is about as close to perfection as you can get. One button brings up the Chrome web browser (typing on it now), another button takes me back to the home screen.
It plays Netflix in 1080P with DD+ and YouTube in 4K, my live TV streams play flawlessly, including the interlaced mpeg2 streams.
Kodi plays my BluRay rips perfectly with HD audio.
Edit: All this for $38 US, with free shipping.

Was this bit really necessary? All that's missing is the link in that ad ^^

Is there a update server for libreelec that updates to kodi 17.4? I used to use http://qwerin.cz/kodi/update.php but when I set that it turns my settings screen black and I can do anything until I erase the libreelec folder in addon_data

Another question that is repeated over and over.

No automatic update server for these builds. Just read the previous posts.

If this situation changes, I'm sure it will come up in the Custom update Channel for S905/S905X thread.

I've got an identical box working perfectly on 8.1.4... Is there some way I can get the remote.conf from that box and paste it via samba to the box without the remote working.

    Yep. Do that.

There's plenty of info throughout these forums on copying files to/from these boxes using SSH / Samba (you can even copy from box to SD then SD to new box. Just go and read some of the earlier posts of those asking similar questions and you'll find out how.
