It was the lack of sleep the day before and me not thinking straight so I had a few hours sleep yesterday and got back to it. Fast boot was disabled and the only other 1st thing to try was to go into the USB configuration something I didn't do 1st time around, so if it happens again and I forget I will just pop back on here as a reminder.

I tried everything with it Grasshopper, the ssd had already been working in this machine since 2014 gradually updating till v19.5 but for some reason the machine would freeze all the time so I decided to do a fresh install and that's when all the trouble began.

But I spent sometime going through the BIOS last night setting each setting inside the USB configuration. I set USB device to Auto that didn't work set it to default which is half initialization that didn't work.

Finally set it to full initialization and guess what!! it finally worked how can one simple setting stop it from installing, I think I will pass this thing onto the daughter let her have it and I will just upgrade.

Thanks for everyone's help though it's been much appreciated.

I've come to the conclusion that this Asus AM1I-A motherboard is utter crap.

I have reset BIOS to defaults tried Generic LibreELEC-Generic.x86_64-10.0.4.img.gz and again nothing

The BIOS is set at UEFI & Legacy by default tried it on that nothing

Set BIOS on Legacy only and again nothing

Set BIOS on UEFI and again nothing

Tried an older version Kodi 18.9 and again nothing

I know the cards are working fine because it let me install it on the same drive via 2 other PC's one a socket 1336 motherboard and another on a AM4 motherboard but soon as I put it the drive onto this Asus AM1I-A it doesn't find a boot device.

Question I haven't used Rufus in a while but can you use that instead of LibreELEC USB-SD Creator?

    Thanks for any help

Thanks for any help with this

Thought I would get my old system out and put libreelec on it and give it to the daughter, but I seem to be having a few installation problems.

This is the PC I'm trying to install it on, I have downloaded the 19.5 generic version used the SD creator tool but every time I try to install it I get cant find boot device and it ask me to click N to find next boot device?

I have 2 internal drives 1 ssd with libreELEC install on the other is a 2.5 500gb drive with a few films on. Now every now and again the drive will just power down giving me a blank screen I can only get kodi back on if I switch HDMI channels, then the drive powers back up!! anyone any idea why it's doing this.

    Thanks for any help.

I have never had this problem when using kodibuntu but since moving over to Libreelec it's happening all the time.

The problem is I could be watching something (not on the drive) and kodi will just go to a black screen, there is no timer settings set anywhere. I have to switch over to another HDMI channel and it comes back on, also nothing up with HDMI cable because I have tried another and it does the same thing. I have even tried the HDMI with the onboard graphics and it still does it. Also I can hear the hard drive spin back up once I have changed channels on the TV.

I've added a log file to see if anyone can see any problems.

Well I purchased myself a GeForce GT 710 SILENT Low Profile 2048MB GPU (long overdue) and it's now been in since the 9-02-17 and I haven't had 1 single system freeze.

So to me it definitely looks like a AMD  5350 Kabini issue.

    Thanks for the reply klojum

It's not a memory issue m8 did all those test a long time ago there is only 1 stick of RAM in there and it was tested quite thoroughly with no errors.

I've installed milhouse kodi 18 alpha and I've just watched 3 episodes at 1080p with only a small pixelation issue. So like you say and I thought would be best would be to buy a dedicated GPU.

Long story short I am not a newbie with this situation I had the problem a few years back on openelec but ended up with installing kodibuntu and not had one problem with this freezing issue since.

These ares some operating systems I have tried with this system and you can see the outcome.

    openelec - 4.2.1 = froze 3 times in 1 hour
    openelec - 4.97.2 = froze once in 2 hours
enelec - 6 = same problem as above
windows 10 = froze after 4 hours, but was also too buggy (tried this again at the end of 2016 and still froze)
    windows 8.1 = froze after 76mins
Linux mint 17.1 = lasted the longest 3hrs 8mins before it froze.

My system which I only use for Kodi

    AMD Athlon 5350
Kingston HyperX Fury Blue 4GB (1x4GB)
    Asus AM1I-A
    120GB OCZ SSD
    Strider SST-ST30SF SFX Series

Though yesterday I did a core update with kodibuntu and it messed everything up it actually took kodi back to 15.2 Isengard and deleted all my addons.

So I thought I would go back to openelec but seeing as that's still on 16.1 I thought I would give LibreElec a chance.

I installed it got all my addons back started watching a film and guess what the system froze once again this had not happened in quite some time and is very annoying.

Personally I think the onboard graphics is the problem because when I have installed a dedicated GPU it's never froze once so really I should purchase a card for this machine which is long overdue.

Anyone else ever had this problem? and why is it still ongoing.

Thanks for any help and advise.
