What’s your issue with the builtin IR receiver?
I’m a big fan of Flirc would be great to get one integrated into the argon case.

USB boot with a USB SSD adapter. Far superior to even the best SD card.
Any chance the NanoPi M1 image will work with the newer NanoPi M1 Plus?
For what its worth, managed to adapt the above instructions to use a standard MCE remote. Just follow the instructions in the LE wiki, in particular the "Configuration (Easy)" section.
Can you link to that ?
Come on its really not that hard to use Google is it? If you choose the non M.2 variant make sure its the V2 model because it adds the IR receiver, which is very useful for LE.
RPi4 with the nightlies is great. Not quite feature complete but the list of missing features is shrinking quickly.
For a more STB style build grab the Argon One case.
False alert, after an upgrade to LibreELEC-RPi4.arm-9.80-nightly-20210219-f2d6417 and a restart its working. No idea what changed.
Had already tweaked the config to us GPIO 23 and have the argon script along with Raspberry Pi tools and system tools installed. Will keep experimenting and see if I can find a way forward.
Am using a nightly build so that might be part of the issue.
I'm also getting the error message "No devices found" when running the ir-keytable -a /storage/.config/rc_maps.cfg -s rc0 any ideas why?
Here is the article I wrote:
Thanks a lot. I had seen that guide and did wonder if it would work with the Argon IR receiver.
- Button and IR works perfectly so I know the scripts did their job, problem is fan stays off.
Could you share what remote you are using with IR? and how you configured it?
at a current nightly image there should be system-tools at the addons
maybe you are using an old image or you need to refresh the addon repos
Thanks I think that fixed it! System Tools now installed.
Have a nightly build running on a RPi4 and its great! Pi is in an Argon One M2 case and would like to control the fans etc, but the System Tools addon is missing from the repo. Is this likely to return or is it dead?
Some positive news. Reset the splitter and set it to 4k, and turned the HTPC on with the TV turned off, and now the passthrough options have returned and are working. Not sure if it'll survive a reset of the HTPC but its working for now!
Tried some samples with Atmos, DD+, TrueHD & DTS-HD and they all worked as expected.
Closing this out for anyone who finds this and has similar problems. The above solution didn't persist after a reboot. Upgraded the firmware on the splitter to v1.73 and that appears to have fixed the problem, has survived a reboot. EDID set to 4K rather than 2K or COPY1.

Because your HDMI splitter is programmable, you should be able to add HD audio formats to EDID.
Thanks for your help! I'll start investigating down that route. Looks like since I bought the splitter they've release a new firmware, I'll start with that and see if it makes a difference.
Does your TV have HDMI ARC or HDMI eARC?
ARC only unfortunately.
Then LE gets supported audio formats from TV, not from AVR. Is there no chance to go HTPC --HDMI--> TV --S/PDIF--> AVR?
There are a few alternatives, ARC works and I can go S/PDIF from the HTPC to the AVR, but I don't think any of these will achieve TrueHD & DTS-HD passthrough?
