As for the gamestarter.log, I just looked it up, through Samba and FTP and it's blank. 0 kb and nothing in it

can you check if files are in its place?:
    - /storage/.kodi/addons/script.gamestarter/resources/bin/emulationstation
    - /storage/.kodi/addons/script.gamestarter/lib/libfreeimage.so.3
    - /storage/.kodi/addons/script.gamestarter/lib/libSDL2-2.0.so.0
    - /storage/.config/emulationstation/es_systems.cfg
    - /storage/.config/emulationstation/es_input.cfg

    and try with ssh:

    Code
    ldd /storage/.kodi/addons/script.gamestarter/resources/bin/emulationstation

finally you can launch it manually:
    stop kodi and enable alsa:

    Code
    systemctl stop kodi
    modprobe snd_bcm2835

    then launch it:

    Code
    /storage/.kodi/addons/script.gamestarter/resources/bin/emulationstation

    it is weird about gamestarter.log...

First of all, thank you very much for this addon, it's awesome Keep up the awesome work!

Secondly, I have a few questions. I'm running the latest LE Alpha build on a Raspberry Pi 3 and I installed EmulationStation from the Gamestarter settings menu. RetroArch works perfectly, but whenever I select EmulationStation as my default frontend and click to open Gamecenter, the screen goes blank and instead of opening EmulationStation, it just restarts Kodi. What do I need to do to make it work?

And for the second question, once you opened a game, like Super Mario Bros. for example, how do you go back to the RetroArch/EmulationStation menu on a generic controller? I don't have a PS3/PS4 or XBox controller, just one of those wired, generic ones, that don't have that PlayStation or XBox main menu/lobby button.

    Thank you in advance

About emulationstation... it is strange, in my installation with LE8 alpha 5 it works... please check the log here: /storage/.config/gamestarter.log

About the gamepad, try to config input buttons when launching retroarch directly, there you can assign a button as a "hotkey" and then others to make combinations for exit, save, load, change shaders, open menu...

I don't know if this is something that is only happening to me, but I think it is important...

I have dig into the problem and I discovered something else: The problem is the "Enable Standby" setting for paired device in LibreELEC config.

    - After pairing a device (my DS3) if I activate "Enable Standby" when screensaver starts (and the gamepad is suppoused to deactivate) the system blocks the screensaver and never starts, also the gamepad never deactivates.
    - If I reboot, even I don't switch on the gamepad, the issue happens.
    - If "Enable Standby" feature is off, the screensaver works ok, but the gamepad still on, comsuming battery.
    - If "Enable Standby" feature is off, the screensaver works ok, also when the gamepad has been not connected.

I dont know if I explain myself clear, but the issue is with that feature...

I have found how the issue is happening:
    - I pair a bluetooth gamepad, Sony Dualshock 3
    - If paired gamepad is on, everything is working ok and screensaver activates after time I set
    - If paired gampad is off (because I didn't use it that day or after auto deactivation with LibreELEC settings) bluetooth dongle is blinking (I supouse looking for paired device) and screensaver does not work. Also if I go to settings> Interface> screensaver> preview it does not work.

Please, can anybody check if it is happening only to me?

Might be a silly question, but how do I update your addon ?
If I check in its parameters, it says there is an update available, but it doesn't update.
And if I try to update it from the addons menu in Kodi settings it says there is no update available.
Do I have to download V2.2 and install it on top of V2.1 ?

    Thx.

It is a WIP feature, by now you can just check if there is a new version, then you must go to github page, download new one and install from zip. You will not lost your configs.

The solution for this is to include the addon in a repo...

I can not compile LibreELEC, it always fails here:

I don't know why these folders can not be moved... I tried to change permissions but no luck. I can copy manually these folders to destination but when I try to compile again, it fails in the same place...

I think the problem can be related with compiling with bash on ubuntu on windows, the new W10 anniversary update feature, I tried in several PCs with W10 and always fails in the same place and some months ago I did the same in ubuntu and it worked...

Is there any walkaround to avoid this step? what file can I edit in order to continue compiling after manually copyig these folders?

    thanks in advance!

    Hello,

i use the latest stable Libreelec which was updated from the latest Openelec. To try this add-on i installed it yesterday. After configuration i try to start it. After the question to leave kodi nothin happend and i still see kodi.
    What can i do?

    Kind regards

    hlluke

I updated it yesterday so maybe you were installing it while I was making some changes, please download again the latest addon version for your OS and try again:
    script.gamestarter-v2.2-OLE.zip

I've tried this, and it looks like libraries are needed in Libreelec too.
Every time I try to load the core in Retroarch, it doesn't load, I'm brought back to the Retroarch menu and the message displayed at the bottom of screen is " no core loaded"...
Maybe I didn't do well, because I'm usually an EmulationStation user as frontend and this time I launched Retroarch from the Advanced Launcher addon.
Also, I couldn't find where is stored the gamestarter.log

Do you plan on updating your addon with this core instead of the Mupen64 one ?
    That would be nice !!
    Thanks.

Yeah, i will replace mupen64 with glupen as n64 default core in upcoming releases... in the meanwhile you can make it work, placing into /storage/.kodi/addons/script.gamestarter/lib/ the following libs:
    libbrcmEGL.so
    libbrcmGLESv2.so

Once you confirm it is working you can edit /storage/.config/emulationstation/es_systems.cfg and replace "mupen64plus" with "glupen64"

Hm, I think there was some kind of misunderstanding. I was requesting the "ResidualVM" core, and after escalade's comment earlier I thought you're giving this core a try, not the n64 stuff...
Any chances you could pick escalade's compiled core and test it?

As escalade said: "ResidualVM is not a libretro core, it's standalone emulator based on ScummVM." So I have no intention of incluiding that, because I preffer libretro cores based emulators in order to have simple configurations, easy launchers, compatibility... sorry... Anyways, you can test by yourself, just burn escalades build, grab the binaries and paste in your own installation... or much better, use escalades build as your own installation, it is awesome!

    Hi!
In the couple last alpha releases I noticed some issues with screensaver activation... Finally I discovered that if I plug in my USB bluetooth device into my RPi2, the system does not enter in screensaver state, it is active everytime. I see the dongle's red led blinking everytime eventhough I disable bluetooth service from libreelec config tool...

If I unplug the usb dongle, then the screensaver works great.

    Any news on that?

I made some tests with escalade's build core and it seems to work much better than previous n64 core.
In OpenELEC 6 (my personal installation) I needed some extra libraries to make it work, it is strange, I found them and it works.

If you want you can try the core in LibreELEC in order to know if those libraries are also needed. I included core in my package, you can download and extract it, copy into /storage/.config/retroarch/cores/ then run retroarch and select content/core. If it does not work check gamestarter.log

here is the cores package including glupen64:
    libretro-part2.tar.gz

    Hi !!

First, thanks for this wonderful addon.
I'm the proud owner of a self made arcade cabinet, running with Recalbox, but being able to run old games on my main TV too, and directly from Kodi, is really a must !!

bite_your_idols, any chance to replace the mupen64plus-libretro core with the actual mupen64plus emulator ?

That's how it is in recalbox, and performances are really much better (for example Mario Kart 64 runs like a charm with no stuttering at all, even in menus and startscreen).
    Retropie recommends it too : Nintendo 64 · RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup Wiki · GitHub

I can test anything if needed, I can also try and do it myself if you point me to the right direction (not sure where to put config files and so on...)
    Thx !!

About nintendo 64, I want to try the new core as escalade said:

    bite_your_idols

ResidualVM is not a libretro core, it's standalone emulator based on ScummVM. Both Grim Fandango and Monkey Island 4 should be completeable. Works great from my testing on Generic. I've packaged it so feel free to grab whatever you need.

You should also take a look at glupen64, it's a new libretro core that aims to follow upstream mupen64. Runs very smoothly on my RPi3, much better than mupen64plus.

I have read about this new core in retropie's latest release post and I want to test it... I will grab it from your build. Thanks!

Hello. I have been stuck on the old green text based Main Menu of RetroArch for a day now. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the gamestarter add-on but that did not retore the old settings. I can navigate the menus with a usb keyboard only, and even then I am unable to launch (or even locate) any of my roms. I cannot figure out what happened to the XMB gui.

This started yesterday while trying to use new gamepads. I got a quick message about there being no core loaded, and then the system froze and had to be rebooted via SSH. I can get to retroarch through Emulation Station, where I was able to set up the usb gamepads, but that's not my usual way to play so I'm a little puzzled.

I'm using a Raspberry Pi 3 running Libreelec 7.0.2, and was trying to install a Matricom G-Pad BX and two generic usb Nintendo stye game pads. I have located the log files, but I don't know which one will have any information about whatever I've done to my system.

    Any help will be appreciated.

It is weird... try deleting or renaming retroarch.cfg in /storage/.config/retroarch in order to auto-create a new one... maybe the file is corrupt...

bite_your_idols, is there any chance to include residualVM in your addon? Stumbled upon that emulator on the retropie homepage, and the possibility to play "Grim Fandango" on the pi would be great! Any thoughts about that?

I see it is an experimental core in retroarch, also, in its github page they say it has some glitches and bugs...

The easiest way I see to use it is compiling the colre (using retroarch's experimental compiler) then copy the core binary and paste into your own libreelec installation in retroarch's cores folder... That is how I get mame2010 and some other experimental cores...

Ah I see. For some reason I thought I read something about updating them, but that's my fault for always tinkering. So anyway I uninstalled the add-on completel and reinstalled the 2.1.1. I actually had the same issue even once I uninstalled it. What I ended up doing was using the gamestarter version of the retroarch config again and now everything seems to be working.

I think I'll just get rid of the default retroarch.cfg and replace it with the game starter version so I don't have to keep switching everytime. Unless I can set the gamestarter version as default somehow in the menu?

Thanks for your help it is much appreciated =)

you can load reroach_gamestarter.cfg, edit all your desired options/settings, then save as retroarch.cfg, so everytime you start retroarch it will use it as your default config file.

If you updated cores, this can be the problem, because the ones downloaded from retroarch's repo are not optimized for raspberry. If so, yo must reinstall Gamestarter addon.

Ok im using LibreELEC (Krypton) v7.90.003 ALPHA build, i was previously using OpenElec. Now with OpenElec in RetroArch if i had a shader loaded and wemt to the edit the shader settings via the 'Menu Shader Parameters' setting i was able to do this fine but since moving to LibreELEC now when i try and edit the shader settings with the parameter setting it causes RetroArch to crash!, any ideas?

I tried some shader parameter edit in retroarch menu in LE8alpha and everything seems to work ok with the shaders I include in my addon... maybe is something related with any shader you use...
