chromium needs to be updated, however HW accell seems to be broken in the new version.
For those that want a test build there is one here, browser.chromium-8.0.104.zip
This will only work on the latest Alpha (7.90.008)
Hi Irusak!
How about the status of the hardware acceleration?
I have an AMD GPU (AMD E-350 CPU)using this test version browser.chromium-8.0.104
There is somehow a strange behavior with the acceleration settings :
TEST 1
- Use hardware acceleration when available is checked
- chrome://flags/
Hardware-accelerated video decode Mac, Windows, Chrome OS
Hardware-accelerated video decode where available. #disable-accelerated-video-decode
Disable
Result:
- Video output is slow and stuttering even on low video resolutions as it seems the GPU is not activated
Graphics Feature Status
- Canvas: Software only, hardware acceleration unavailable
- Flash: Software only, hardware acceleration unavailable
- Flash Stage3D: Software only, hardware acceleration unavailable
- Flash Stage3D Baseline profile: Software only, hardware acceleration unavailable
- Compositing: Software only, hardware acceleration unavailable
- Multiple Raster Threads: Unavailable
- Native GpuMemoryBuffers: Software only. Hardware acceleration disabled
- Rasterization: Software only, hardware acceleration unavailable
- Video Decode: Software only. Hardware acceleration disabled
- Video Encode: Software only, hardware acceleration unavailable
- VPx Video Decode: Software only. Hardware acceleration disabled
- WebGL: Unavailable
TEST 2
- Use hardware acceleration when available is checked
- chrome://flags/
Hardware-accelerated video decode Mac, Windows, Chrome OS
Hardware-accelerated video decode where available. #disable-accelerated-video-decode
Enable
Result:
- In the chromium task manager the GPU acceleration plugin is running so I expect the GPU acceleration is active.
- Video output is better but at 1080p there are still stutters every 10-15 sec.
Graphics Feature Status
- Canvas: Hardware accelerated
- Flash: Hardware accelerated
- Flash Stage3D: Hardware accelerated
- Flash Stage3D Baseline profile: Hardware accelerated
- Compositing: Hardware accelerated
- Multiple Raster Threads: Enabled
- Native GpuMemoryBuffers: Software only. Hardware acceleration disabled
- Rasterization: Software only, hardware acceleration unavailable
- Video Decode: Software only, hardware acceleration unavailable
- Video Encode: Hardware accelerated
- VPx Video Decode: Software only, hardware acceleration unavailable
- WebGL: Hardware accelerated
Question:
I wonder why I have to deactivate the hardware acceleration at chrome://flags/ to get some accelerations features enabled. Shouldn't it be opposite?!
Running chrome in Windows this flag only has influence to the "Video Decode" feature. If the parameter is enabled "Video Decode" is GPU is active.
If disabled "Video Decode" is software only.
Anyway the "Video decode" feature is always shown as Software only whatever I set.
The actual chromium 8.0.106 I can't test because I get the "Aw Snap!" but the results in the graphic feature status are same to the 8.0.104 Test Version.
UPDATE:
I did some play arround with the settings. Actually when the chrome://flags/ Hardware-accelerated video decode is enabled the GPU crash with this log message:
GpuProcessHostUIShim: The GPU process exited with code 256.
This is then the reason why all hardware features are disabled as shown in TEST1.
So the question is what crashed the GPU process and how to solve this.
Any hint would be helpful.
Thanks!!
