Normally LibreELEC creates two partitions, the first being /flash (labelled System, normally device sda1) and /storage (labelled Storage, normally device sda2). What's odd about your problem is that it tries to mount your entire disk (/dev/sda) as /storage. Did you modify the bootloader in any way?
What's the output of "cat /proc/cmdline"?

20170126:
Code- Latest Kodi Krypton - Added reicast emulator for RPi - xf86-video-nvidia 378.09 - Linux 4.10-rc5 - Updated packages: mesa, sabnzbd, retroarch, reicast, dolphin, glupen64-libretro, libevdev, pulseaudio
Some interesting new netplay functionality in the new RetroArch version that I haven't tested yet. Game lobbies seem promising

My build is based on the libreelec-8.0 branch, the most significant difference except my added packages is upgraded kernel, mesa and sdl2. I ship the same drivers as vanilla LE, you can verify this by booting the latest beta and check if your wireless card comes up (I would think not). The RTL8723AE is supported by the kernel as far as I can tell, but there can be issues with SDIO, firmware, etc. In my experience Realtek = crap hardware and worse drivers.

Correct, you'll need to set up the controller in ES as well. Kodi mappings are for Kodi only.

How did you create the USB? Check that the filesystem with SYSTEM/KERNEL present is labelled "System".

This is a sure way to getting ignored by any devs. Why don't YOU fix it and submit a PR?
Great "way of the exploding fist" avatar btw

Configure it?

Definitely do not buy the Wintel. Wireless and bluetooth is not working, there's random crashes and the BIOS is very buggy. If you want a cheap device, the Tronsmart Ara X5 Plus works good. It has minor issues as well but wifi/BT works and it's a lot more stable than the Wintel.
If you want a real upgrade, get a NUC.

Thanks for testing, the joyconfig utility will be included in the next build. I'll see about including ds4 config and linking the bios directory to /storage/roms/bios as well.
