Indeed, I can't notice any difference from my testing either so builds will have it enabled from now on. 4.15 will have to wait until I have time.
Define too slow? Sounds like perhaps you are experiencing input lag, see if there's a "game mode" on your TV. Hard to say as you have not provided any information about your setup or logs.
The avx2 build has been updated with glibc 2.27 and 4.15.1. I've also added a RETPOLINE/KPTI enabled build in the same dir. I'll probably do the same for the regular build. Will appreciate any Dolphin benchmarks if anyone have the time.

I'm using Arch, you can pull my escalade1/arch-build Docker container to get the same. LE 8.2 is actually on glibc 2.24. Just do a "git reset --hard cfd99b4485226a8c0e77c092373221445f82aa9b" to get the same version built for last generic release.
This is due to a change in glibc 2.27, check out the revision before that commit.
There's a 10 fps difference in one of the games so how could you say it's unaffected? I'm not excluding that I will include it in future builds, just I've left it disabled for now.

You could use my escalade1/arch-build Docker container which is what I build in.
Correct, and 4.11 is a step back in performance. The most demanding processes in this build are Dolphin and PCSX2, if all you do is watch movies why aren't you running vanilla LE?
Meanwhile, your LE system has a default root password of libreelec (although in my build you can change it ) and you're worried about spectre/meltdown when visiting netflix.
I care, but not enough to sacrifice performance on a Kodi / emulator box. Once they've reworked the patches and it's performing better I will probably include it. Nobody is stopping you from compiling yourself. Oh no, that would mean work for YOU and not for me!
Maybe actually try to read what it says? If 4.15 is 7-9% faster than 4.11, and KPTI makes 4.15 1-2% slower than 4.11, that's about a 10% performance hit.
You don't "have to" do anything, you could wipe your disk and throw your machine out the window if you like.
Why would you need a dedicated machine? There's Docker, Parallels etc.

From the answers it seems like even with the amlogic SoC's the support is incomplete at best though (speaking of LibreELEC/Kodi).
There's no HDR support on Linux, Dolby Vision or not.
Put your themes in /storage/.config/emulationstation.
I still haven't started the move to LE9, as I have limited time at the moment and due to changes in the build system it will require some work. I have lots of pending updates for my LE8 branch that I haven't commited yet, the avx build is updated if you have such a system. Otherwise I'll update the other builds this week.
