thanks chewitt I'm so tempted lol
this comparison has it 96% faster in single core compared to the N100.
The N100 I can source for around £70 on sales, the 8840u for £260
So you're paying 271% more with 366% more power draw (28w vs 6w) for 96% faster single core.
On idle these boxes are not that high in power draw and you'll be using hardware decode too.
Once prices reach more reasonable levels like £150, I think this would be great to test out.
It is strange that only a single Chinese box is selling this inside a minipc form factor, most are hand held.
anyway hope someone does try it out lol

Was doing some research for the next best Chipset after the N100 as a miniPC with lowish power draw and my research points towards the Ryzen 8440U

Mainly interested in single core speed. From Ali for around £260, it aligns well for value.
I'm not in the process of buying but was wondering how well do you think it would work out of the box compared to an N100.

any speculative thoughts on this? thx -
Thankyou for getting back to me, I was most concerned about noise and the G3 mini Plus was almost half price but with a fan and worse build design. really thought I'd b able to replace the Pi5 which is a beast but I do notice the my SK1 gives a better audio and picture quality but it's far slower than the Pi5. Pi5 is almost perfect if not for a few flaws (over saturation, HDR10+ looks slightly better on my TV). Because of your comment I've realised their is no perfect device for all occasion. and it's worth seeing how these N100 systems do for my setup. I've decided to get the cheaper g3 mini plus, it's even got the N150, though it's not much different to the N100.
Thanks for your help and for your continued support on this platform, I'm sure I'll be making use of it and looking forward to how this hardware will perform, but for $129 N150, 16GB RAM, 512GB storage, it's a nice deal thx -
sky42 sorry for repeat question, I don't know how to edit my comment, I've seen you have the minix Z100 and are a developer, how do you find it in LibreELEC, would you say it can do everything a Pi5 in LibreELEC can do? My friend says the OSD in LibreELEC for the pi5 is over saturated. so if the N100 platform isn't over saturated, it's a viable replacement. I don't want to sacrifice on speed , so it has to be at least as fast as Pi.
I can get the Minix Z100 for £190 all in, do you think it's worth it ? really do appreciate any help you can offer thanks -
hey how are you finding the g3 mini plus in terms of sound, is everything working that you want, how about CEC or wake from LAN. Just trying to decide between the g3 mini plus for £98 compared to the Minix Z100 which costs £189 second hand (almost like new)
The g3 mini plus has the n1500 which is marginally better too. any help is appreciated thanks
