I just want to say many thanks for your investigation. I stumbled across that weird behavior these days and was very happy to find such detailed analysis and, even better, possible solutions.
Right now I am using chewitt s image from above and it works.

if i remember right, my c2 is an earlier one as i bought i right just a few weeks after HK introduced it...
I also own a C2 from the very early days.
