Same problem here. Since the update to LE 11, the external hard drive has simply disappeared more and more often. Connected the drive to the PC, it has to be repaired briefly. Then everything works normally again. One day later, the same problem appears. The hard drive runs via an external power cable. Smart values are all fine. I would also be pleased to find a solution.
