Here's another thought. How about starting a new thread.
List of devices with issues using Libreelec
It would update previous working Chinese Branded Boxes using Libreelec that
have changed Hardware or Firmware causing issues with Libreelec.
A member posting on this thread would make this a more up to date list on any box that changes compatability.

If you think it's a good idea then go for it. I don't have any particular issues to talk about so it would be a bit odd for me to start it. And obviously if there are 'good' boxes out there (which I'd say there are) they'd never get a mention in that thread. So while such a thread would certainly be useful, it baffles me that you - and not just you - think me giving an overall impression of the boxes I use would be worthless. Because I'd certainly be interested in others' experiences next time around.

    Correct.

Plus this same topic thread using different wording has been started by another 2 naive members.

    thread-1973-post-15836.html#pid15836
    thread-1982-post-15873.html#pid15873

I don't consider myself naive in this regard yet I can see how a list could be useful if it was properly managed.
Ultimately if there's no list, no discussion, no recommendations then it's just a lottery. I don't understand how that's better but hey-ho.

I managed to get the remote.conf from my older libreelec install as all the remote buttons work as should on that install.
The problem I am having is that I cannot upload the remote.conf file to the etc/amremote folder, it looks like I dont have permission. Im using filezilla to access the system files.

The remote.conf needs to sit in storage/.config. System is read-only.

Yes, I will reinstall exactly the same LE version. Will the above include the fanart images?

That's everything in your video library. Plus a bit of junk that accumulates in textures.db / Thumbnails.

The built-in libreelec addon doesn't work on my current install, which is one of the reasons for the clean install (see my OP) so I need to do this manually.

It would be a good idea to keep a backup of some kind just in case, obviously, until you're happy it's worked.
Using a different card is the easiest way, or use the backup addon in the kodi repo or copy files from storage/.kodi via smb / ftp / whatever.

If your intention is to install the same version of libreelec as now then copying the following will keep your whole library and sources intact:
    .kodi/userdata/Thumbnails
.kodi/userdata/Database/MyVideosxx.db (where xx is the highest number if there's more than one MyVideos database
.kodi/userdata/Database/Texturesxx.db (as above, highest number present).
    .kodi/userdata/sources.xml

    Install new libreelec.
Connect via ssh (putty if using windows).
    Run 'systemctl stop kodi'
Paste the files and the Thumbnails folder into place.
    Run 'systemctl start kodi'
    Library should be back.
If you're doing that on a fresh card there's no need to make backups - if using the same card back up first with the built-in libreelec addon and move the backup (tar) off the card before reinstalling.

The alternative to doing the above would be to export your library and re-import - details in the kodi wiki.
Personally I'd just copy the databases, as long as your file paths aren't changing.

Thank you for the pointer. Hmmm ... if I find some spare hours I might try and get this working. I guess I was asking a lot to simply drop in my ever growing lircd.conf.

If you use an external receiver then lirc (and lircd.conf and all the other gubbins) is used - the only limitation is that you can't switch on except via the original remote / built-in receiver.

    Solved! :)
.kodi folder does not exist by default. I have created shared .kodi folder by editng samba.conf
After reboot the folder was accessible and there were allready subfolders inside (addons, media, system, temp, userdata (clone of the existing Userdata).
I've created Fonts folder inside media folder and it worked. Even without reboot.
Thank you for the hint :)

What you've created is a samba share pointing to the already existing .kodi folder (which is created on first run @ storage/.kodi). If you'd created a samba share pointing at 'storage' you'd have seen the .kodi folder inside it.

My biggest concern apart from having a good android experience, is actually running Libre smoothly...

I don't understand why you'd even consider S912 at the moment tbh then.

    [hr]
So on the kodi forum wrxtasy is saying 'Don't buy it at all', and here kszaq is saying 'Don't buy it for libreelec.'
I'd probably go with... oh, I dunno.

Edit: it's not like these boxes cost a fortune. I have 2, total cost about £60. It's not worth buying something that might be great in a few months.

I'm running kszaq's build from internal storage, but the device has 16GB of storage.
Speaking about your box, I didn't install elec to internal, because of 8GB. Wasn't sure if it sufficient for Kodi buffering. Kszaq may know the answer.

Unless you're running an advancedsettings.xml with zero cache enabled there's no issue. IIRC kodi caches no more than about 20MB to RAM by default, and if you adjust the videocache settings you're still caching to RAM (ie not to that 8GB) unless you're using zero cache.
Just look in system info > storage for an idea of how much space you're using. I doubt it's anywhere near 8GB.

If literally all you want is the video library just copy myvideosxx.db (where xx is the highest number present) from storage/.kodi/Database.
Stick that in a new kodi folder, start it up and the library's there.
Copying sources.xml from .kodi/userdata at the same time would be sensible.

But most SD cards / USB sticks have a relative short life span. Sooner or later they will fail.

Sooner or later everything fails. If that's after 6 months it's an issue; if it's a few years not so much. I've yet to have an sd card fail in a pi - although I've had a couple of (identical) usb3 sticks break. I'm not attaching statistical significance to that.

Edit: it used to be recommended in many places to stick storage on a usb stick, because there was a bug that caused corruption in sd cards. That hasn't been the case for a few years. I switched back at that time from usb3 sticks to a good sd card and didn't notice a performance difference.

    The libreelec installer makes:
    - a 500MBish fat partition visible in windows
    - a 32MBish ext4 partition windows can't see. It's visible in 3rd party partition software like Easus.
The rest of the card is unallocated.
On first boot the ext4 partition is expanded to fill the card. It will still not be visible to windows if stuck in a windows pc.

edit: or in other words the same as vperter said.

The most obvious difference in scanning tv shows vs movies is that the scan isn't recursive.
So if you've set content on 'Shared TV Shows' you need to have a folder for each show in the root of 'Shared tv shows', named the same as the show. Episodes can go straight into the show folder or into season folders, doesn't matter which.
If that's your structure already then I'd suggest:
    -enable debug logging
    -restart kodi
    -run a scan
-upload the log and paste a link.
