Small little update, cause I got actual 4k movie content running smoothly with NFS over UDP (tcp was already too slow). Unfortunately this performance doesn't translate to the Jelly-Fish test files.

The smallest Jellyfish 4k Bitrate Test file works "bearable", in that it has visible stutters but is still watchable.

All other 4k test files show heavy stuttering and buffering and are basically unwatchable.

However, as long as actual movie seem to work nicely I achieved the goal I wanted to achieve, especially considering that it was a really cheap box for only 35€.

1. Write this image to sd card: LibreELEC-S905.arm-8.2-8.2.0.1.img.gz

2. Start the box and then insert the card.

3. Take a toothpick and stick it at the bottom side of the box (there is a very little hole)

4. Unplug the power plug and back, now start the box with libreelec boot screen. (when you see the libreelec picture, you can release the toothpick and the box started again with libreelec)

It worked, and holy #&%$ Kodi on LibreELEC is so much smoother than on Android! Its a difference like night an day.

In my case I´m using Gb USB adaptor with S905X boxes

The source file was a H.265 encoded 4k movie ripped from blue ray and stored via SMB on a NAS. The playback stuttered and froze most of the time, the movie was basically not watchable.

Oh thanks for the advice, I will try this.

BTW: Can you stream 4k content once you've installed LibreELEC? When running Kodi on the preinstalled Android it doesn't work out for me.

The box already has only 1 GB of RAM and I used the corresponding device tree.

When they actually build in less than that, then there isn't any other device tree left, so lets hope this works out

According to the [HOWTO + FAQ] Install community builds on S905/S905X/S912 device, s905x processors do not have device-specific device trees but generic ones, that correspond to the devices ram size. I downloaded these builds [8.2.0.1] LibreELEC 8.2 for S905/S905X and tried to apply both 1GB device trees from here: Index of /s905/8.2/device_trees/S905X

I tried to follow the instruction in [HOWTO + FAQ] Install community builds on S905/S905X/S912 device but I keep returning into the "Android System Recovery" screen.

What I did:

+ Use the Usb-SD-Creator to prepare an USB Stick with LibreELEC-S905.arm-8.2-8.2.0.1

+ Install device tree gxl_p212_1g.dtb by replacing img.dtb on the USB image

+ Insert the USB stick into the Box and Restart while pushing the Menu Button of the remote. (According to some Amazon review, this is supposed to be the only way to do a successful installation)

+ Now I end up in the Recovery Screen

Things I've tried so far:

- In the recovery screen pushed "Reboot to Bootloader" and "Reboot System Now"

- Switch the USB ports

- Try the NAND device tree gxl_p212_1g_nand.dtb

- Use newer versions of libreelec LibreELEC-S905.arm-adamg-1.0.5

Would the Update from EXT/SD options be any useful?
