I've been searching for a solution for a while, and it turns out there is a solution. You need to add the following to your advancedsettings.xml file. It will let you view animated gifs when in the Pictures section. Hopefully this will help other people searching.

I have an Intel NUC that I'm using as my media box in my bedroom. I just updated it to 9.2.1 from 8.2.5, as I hadn't used this device in a while, and everything seemed to work fine, but there was no sound.
The audio device was greyed out, and showed Bluetooth (PULSEAUDIO) as the device selected. I guess at some time in the past I had some Bluetooth speakers or headphone connected.
I had to downgrade to 9.2.0 to get the ability to change audio devices, and set it to analog, as I use a simple 2.1 system in my bedroom.
Just thought I would mention it.
