I really appreciate all the work you and escalade have put in to these remix builds. I tried escalade's build when I first got my asrock j4205 but dreamcast and playstation 1 games did not run at full speed. I then debated on making my own build similar to what you have, but did not get very far. I eventually settled on Libreelec/Lakka dual booting. I decided to give your build a shot and have the same issues. I noticed you have a similar mainboard. Is there anything I need to tinker with before I post some logs? FWIW, everything else I have tested on your build and escalade's build have worked pretty much flawlessly except PS1 and dreamcast.

oddly enough, PPSSPP is the one emulator that worked on this build out of the box for me, but I can not get working on Lakka

Well, I have run out of ideas on my own so I have returned for some help. I recently purchased the ASROCK J4205 Intel Apollo Lake board. While using your Generic x86_64 build, Dreamcast, PS1, and Mame do not run without the sound popping and slowdown of the game. I have not tried different Mame cores yet, since I have not been able to get either of the other two worked out. I did try all dreamcast and PS1 cores with the same result. Everything runs fine on Lakka on all cores for comparisons sake and I changed no settings whatsoever on the cores in either build. All the older systems seem to run fine after a quick run through. As always, any help is appreciated, and thanks for your work on this.

New build uploaded with glibc 2.27 retpoline and updated retroarch.
About Emulationstation, I probably won't be upgrading it any time soon as there's no changes that have been relevant. I've backported some of the performance improvements from RetroPie. Only relevant stuff is maybe the carouselle theme and videos (which requires a rather large libvlc library).
I for one am jonesing for custom collections which have been available since, I think, retropie emulationstation 2.4.
I think your image is amazing but I think updating ES would be like icing on the cake.

On a fresh Ubuntu 17.10 install, while trying to make generic x86_64 image I keep getting this error about a variable. I built vanilla 9.0 devel just fine as a test run on the same machine about 2 or 3 days ago. Any ideas? Thanks for all your work on this build again escalade.

while fiddling around with all this and jumping back and forth to get things worked out I noticed libreelec is snappier. Maybe because of my old system lol. Thanks again. its a fantastic build.

So I have figured out where everything now goes and whatnot. Bought a better than no name bluetooth adapter (not the overpriced Sony one) .Controllers are working flawlessly. If I could get overlays working I would be ecstatic. I actually like 16:9 on most games but some things I would like a border or overlay. Retroarch in general has a lot of changes since the last time I worked with it. Hoping to figure this out in time as well. Just putting the overlays in the directory and selecting them does nothing as well as specifying them in retroarch and core cfgs. Thanks again for the excellent build escalade This is my first experience with libreelec at all and it is heaps better in performace than OE. Wish I would have switched sooner.

So as my adventure continues, I am getting more confused here. Xbox 360 controllers work no problem. Dual shock 3's are not working at all in retroarch and disable the keyboard when connected through USB or Bluetooth. Dual Shock 4's work through USB only in retroarch, through bluetooth also not working in retroarch and disable the keyboard when connected. Dual shock 3 and 4 both work in Kodi through Bluetooth or USB no problems. Also I tried a couple of USB gamepads that I have that do not have retroarch config files ( I have my own). These 2 are able to be configured in emulationstation and also do not work in retroarch but do not disable the keyboard.
where is the correct place to place my own gamepad configs? I tried .config/retroarch/autoconfig did not work. The place where the builtin in retroarch auto configs are is not writeable. Everything I have tried to configure is getting into the es_inputs.cfg but does not seem to go through to retroarch. Any ideas?
Maybe 'get a new computer' would be the proper advice here. lol It is an old ass machine.

I'm an idiot, or at least half of one. Dual shock 3's do not work on my libreelec system in retroarch through usb either. They can be used in kodi and emulation station but the same thing still happens in retroarch. The keyboard and controller do not work in retraorch when the controller is active. Back to square one i guess lol
Edit: i did try xbox 360 controllers. They are working without issue.

I managed to get the firmware to load up, maybe incorrectly, since now libreelec says there is no bluetooth adapter found. lol
I made a folder /storage/.config/firmware/brcm and added the file in there.
It is now loaded but maybe too late in the process for libreelec to use?
Maybe I will pick up the Sony usb dongle, but if anyone wants to humor a computer nerd (not a total linux expert though) I wouldn't mind working this to a solution.

here are the logs that look to have relevant information.
I am zeroing in on this in the system log -
[ 19.643851] Bluetooth: hci0: BCM20702A1 (001.002.014) build 0000
[ 19.646721] bluetooth hci0: Direct firmware load for brcm/BCM20702A1-0a5c-21e8.hcd failed with error -2
[ 19.646727] Bluetooth: hci0: BCM: Patch brcm/BCM20702A1-0a5c-21e8.hcd not found
In the KODI.log this was repeated thousands of times -
17:08:37.095 T:139763642173184 ERROR: AddOnLog: Joystick Support: ScanEvents: failed to read joystick "Sony PLAYSTATION(R)3 Controller" on /dev/input/js1 - 19 (No such device)

Edit: I have found said hcd file on the interweb but am not sure how to proceed from here. I can not just straight up copy it into the correct location.

I have a Broadcom BCM20702 Bluetooth 4 USB dongle. I remember having to do some things to get it working years ago with OE but can not remember what all it entailed. This is where lack of notes bites me in the rear.

Its actually a really old AMD setup. I have been holding onto it for dear life. I think its a K8. I notice your builds are geared toward Intel. maybe that is the cause. I should have mention the system in my first post. Maybe its time for me to finally get the cobwebs out of the wallet and build a new HTPC
Thanks for the quick reply. I will update if I solve the issue.

Thanks for this build.
I am having issues with controllers on it. Maybe I missed something simple. I am using the X86_64 builds and have tried the last 3 or 4 and what ends up happening is my PS3 controller connects fine in kodi wired and wireless, can be confgured in emulationstation either way, but once retroarch starts the controller does not work. Weirder still the keyboard does not work either unless I shut off the controller. Controller messages still come up in Retroarch when disconnecting and reconnecting the controller. I have tried multiple USB ports, multiple controllers, and unplugged my 360 wireless controller receiver. Also worth noting, the controller when connected in kodi or the emulators, starts lighting up the player 1 led then immediately flips to the player 2 led. When two controllers were connected they ended up player 2 and 4. Any thought from anyone?
FWIW I have had retroarch and PS3 controllers working on this specific PC previously in OE, but after many updates and my install of RA no longer booting I decided to give this build a shot.
PS. this thread is long and the search function and advanced search do not work.
Thanks again for your work on this build.
