I am having this exact problem. Is there any consensus on what causes it?

Every time I leave Kodi to either go to another input for a long time or, I think, let the Rpi go into sleep mode, when I return there is no audio either in the menus or in the played videos. Is there something I can try to stothis from happening? This is a fresh install of LibreElec Kodi, I don't get what could be wrong.
Thanks for any help!

Ok, yes, but what I meant was, what protocol do I select if I'm going to access via the IP address? There are several listed.

Because the current implementation at kodi is highly missleading, if you use Windows network (SMB) it means the super old protocol that is EOL since decades and Windows10 automatically disables it. Ofc nobody should use SMB1 at all, it has several problems (hickups while streaming and whatnot).
legacy smb implementation still at the gui · Issue #18840 · xbmc/xbmc · GitHub
Windows XP SMB1
15 yrs ago Windows Vista SMB2
Windows 8 SMB3
Windows 10 can handle SMB2 + SMB3
So you need to use "add network location ..." to enter the ip where your share is located. User+password is needed.
Ok, so (and sorry if I'm restating the blatantly obvious) I need to add a network location, enter the IP and on my computer give my shares a name and password for access? What kind of connection do I choose when I add network location where it asks above the address for a type?
-
I doubt that,
Meaning?

Ok, thanks, I'll try that. I'm not married to SMB by the way, I simply didn't know there was another way to do it.

I've tried asking for help on the Kodi and Rpi forums and nobody was able to help.
I've literally got a fresh install of the latest Kodi on LibreElec on my Rpi4. I go to add a SMB share and none of the shared folders on my Windows computer appear. With all other devices, they're there and working fine. So, what do I do to connect with them. My Rpi4 is connected to my home network via ethernet. Until now I've been running a Rpi2, same setup, LibreElec and Kodi, and everything with SMB has always been fine.
If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it. Otherwise I'll just have to return the RPi4. -
That's a weird mindset if you want to visit forums for opinions and replies.
You know what I meant, I meant in the context of replying but with a massive amount of uncalled for attitude. I already thanked the person for their useful info. All I'm saying, which I shouldn't have to defend myself for, is that the being called out for something that isn't the end of the world is unfair.
Anyway, I'm willing to drop this now as this doesn't help anyone. Thanks for helping out, and for sharing your opinion.

it can rub the wrong way and backfire on you
Sorry, I just don't think that's justified or sensical. I think a lot of people just don't know how to mind their own business.
You won't always get a wider range of answers. And more answers can also be more confusing to the one asking the questions.
Again, I think that's a matter of opinion. In my experience, and many people I know, it's a great way to curate and amass several opinions. Again, it's the internet, that's what it's there for. I see people do this a lot I don't take it upon myself to call them out. I should think someone saying, "I want a new download, why isn't it available" would be more concerning. But we can agree to disagree, I hope.

You already got the answer to your (identical) question on the kodi forum
I ask on different forums when I want a wider range of answers from different communities. Been doing that on forums for 20 years. Is that a crime?
If your receiver doesn't support E-AC3 simply don't enable E-AC3 passthrough in audio settings (it's disabled by default).
That I didn't know about. Thank you.

I run Kodi via LibreElec on my Rpi2-B.
It doesn't look like I'll be able to play HEVC h.265 videos on this Pi. Would that be possible on the newest models?
I also have a problem with EAC3 but that's my receiver that doesn't permit that. As far as ports, I need straight up HDMI and some USB and nothing else. I don't watch anything over 1080p. While we're at it is there some other video watching program other than Kodi that has come along that I might be better off looking at for video playing?
-
Not possible. You'd need to hack the theme to change the OSD display.
Ok.. So I'll need a theme that doesn't show anything on pause.
-
While viewing a video on the default theme of Kodi, when I pause, I'd like the screen to not show anything on the display. Just the paused frame. Is that possible?
-
I just want to edit the default times for skipping forward and backward and maybe some other commands.
I've got a wireless keyboard remote type controller if that makes any difference.
