This is not egalax but waveshare touchscreen device. It is very stupid device and hard to support without manufacturers driver.
You only need to copy config files ts.conf-waveshare to ts.conf and ts_env.sh-waveshare to ts_env.sh. After reboot it should magically work.
Update: Touchcreen addon is now available in LibreELEC repository 
Can you describe the problem just in a little more details please?
evtest doesn't run unless I specify a device and in /dev/input there are no files called event* - the only file I see is mice. So I presume I need to activate the touchscreen using some setting somewhere? Any thoughts?

Those systemctl command is run only once. After reboot shares will always be mounted.

I think mount folder will be created automatically.
Little more info would be nice. Like photo of the tv. And correct autostart.sh

Lucap, it was me who purge you and I'm sorry. It was not intentional - just didn't got morning coffe yet and my vision was little blur.
And now that you have more than one post you are safe 
In that post it is written /storage/.kodi/userdata/addon_data/service.system.tslib.
I hope I will finish this in next few days, commit everything and then official addon can be installed. BUt even in this case some help from users would be required - as I wrote I don't have any generic touchscreen and can't cover all possible combinations.
This two files MUST be copied/edited manually. Maybe one day this could be possible from addon settings but at the moment I don't have this on my plan.
If you don't have this 2 files then daemon is not started. I assume something else went wrong in your case for not seeing kodi. To be sure remove addon folder /storage/.kodi/addons/service.system.touchscreen.
mrhk13, did you setup ts.conf and ts_env.sh? And if you remove this addon folder does it start?
Any idea what goes wrong here? I'm happy to provide more logs if that helps.
No idea. And I'm not capable to fix such issues. I can only pick bits and pieces.
You can post some samples and describe exactly what is wrong with them.

I will try the image that vpeter made several days ago again (7.90.007 with 3.14 kernel) but I already tested it and the fix was not incorporated. Maybe it's the way vpeter makes the 3.14 kernel images for imx6 and he doesn't pull the fix into the build process. I'll test again.

avoiding the "2 step" process, 1st having to get the image on e.g. USB pen, then booting that pen finally installing LE on the target device
v007 allows that - you only need to select run when syslinux bootloader starts. Or after writing medium change syslinux.cfg.
