I just installed LibreELEC on a system today, so I have whatever the most recent version is as of March 22, 2025, and am a bit confused about one thing. My remote control was a Windows MCE remote, this is the best picture I could find: https://th.bing.com/th/id/R.ae36fd…&pid=ImgRaw&r=0
I still use the IR receiver that came with that remote, but all the buttons were mapped onto an older model Harmony remote, which is what I use day to day because it is rechargeable. The batteries died in the original remote long ago. Anyway, when using previous versions of Kodi (running under Ubuntu desktop) I used to install LIRC (the older version with the remote control selection menu that appears during the install process) and during installation it would ask me to pick my remote from a list, and I would always pick "Windows Media Center Transceivers/Remotes (all)" and that would work great.
LibreELEC apparently somehow detects what remote you have, and it almost gets it right. All the buttons on my Harmony remote work except the one which is labelled "Guide", which I assume sends the same codes as the "Guide" button on the real MCE remote. But now when I press it, it brings up the Live TV schedule grid (which by the way is broken if you are using Tvheadend as your PVR backend, but that's a whole other matter, and it was broken in Kodi running under Ubuntu as well). And it does that even if I am not in the Live TV section. What it used to do, in every previous version of Kodi I have used, is bring up the side menu that comes in from the left hand side, that would let you do things like delete a recording or video, or mark it as watched or unwatched, or save it to your favorites - basically what to me is the most useful menu in Kodi for managing your media. I don't know exactly what that menu is called, but I can no longer access it using the Guide button.
So I would like to know what type of remote LibreELEC thinks I am using, and if it is not a Windows MCE remote, is there some way to change that? Or, alternately, is there a simple way to map a particular remote key to a particular Kodi function, WITHOUT messing up all the other buttons? Please understand that I am not at all familiar with LibreELEC's file layout, I can't even figure out how to install Midnight Commander so I can use its "Find File" feature (I don't want to install an entire suite of software, just Midnight Commander). So the one thing I request is if you tell me to look at a particular file, I would really appreciate it if you could include the path to that file. I can ssh into the system but it looks nothing like Ubuntu (and also just because I mention Ubuntu, please don't assume that I have more than just a nodding familiarity with Linux).
