This is THE answer. Download the image you need to build and use balenaEtcher to flash it. Works like a charm.
Worked for me too. Perhaps it's a good idea to update the Create Media page to point to balenaEtcher, given that LibreELEC USB-SD Creator on MacOS seems badly broken with no fix in sight!
